Maths and Computing...

To be active partners in a learning society with their local schools and communities. They will be the lead centre in sharing resources as well as developing and sharing good practice across the whole community. Colleges will also actively engage and work with business and industry to promote the use of mathematics and computing outside of school.

At Wood Green as part of our second specialism we have already introduced a number of initiatives:

Leadership

We have introduced two leadership awards:

  • YeL@ (Young e-Leaders Award)
  • MYLA (Maths Young Leaders Award

These awards are broken up into three sections
Part One: Individual Achievement

Pupils need to take part in one ICT/Maths activity for at least 3 months during the time they do the award. They should take part for a minimum of the equivalent of one hour a week and must collect evidence of their achievement in ICT/Maths. They must show how they have reached a challenge in their chosen activity.

Part Two: The World of ICT/Maths

They must complete two tasks. These are:
1. Going to at least one different kind of environment where ICT/Maths is being used.
2. Researching at least one different career or job in ICT/Maths including the qualifications that are required in order to achieve this.

Part Three: Leadership and Team Working

They need to display leadership skills by planning, leading and evaluating an ICT/Maths project as a leader or as part of a leadership team. Their project should be shared.
