Eco-friendly at WGHS

Our aim: To work towards becoming one of the Government’s sustainable schools.

Achievements so far:

We have achieved a bronze award!

What are we doing at the moment?

  • Eco club meets every Thursday in R021 to discuss and find solutions to some of the environmental problems.
  • The action team at eco-club have completed an environmental review. This looks at how we use energy and water and what we are doing with waste.
  • The action team have made an action plan. This looks at what we should do as a school to make us more environmentally friendly.

What is the benefit to WGHS students?

We are trying to improve the school environment for everybody! A cleaner and more energy efficient school is a better school for all of us!

Do you think you can help?

Eco-club meets every Thursday in R021 (12:45-1:15), come along and see what we do and how you can help!

See Mr Skilton for more information.

We now have a range of new bins in school to help us reduce, reuse and recycle, these are:

  • Paper, plastic and cardboard bins that are accessible for students so that all of these waste products can be recycled.
  • A textile recycling bank where the following can be placed:
    1. Clothes
    2. Paired shoes (tied together by laces or elastic band)
    3. Hats
    4. Bags
    5. Belts
    6. Curtains
    7. Bed linen
    8. Towel

It is sited by the sports hall, just make sure all the items are in a bag!

It’s encouraging to see so many pupils keen on helping our drive towards becoming one of the few ‘green flag’ schools in the country!
